Product Description

The most critically acclaimed Wii game ever returns, as Mario battles Bowser and his minions across an even more bizarre galaxy of worlds. The first game is already acknowledged as the greatest 3D platform game ever made and this new sequel adds to the excitement with long-time Mario ally Yoshi.

Not only will the little green dinosaur give you a ride wherever you want, but you can aim his tongue with the Wii remote and gobble up bad guys and bonuses alike. Eat a fruit and Yoshi will turn into a giant balloon or gobble a hot red pepper and he'll suddenly run at super speed.

You'll need all the help you can get too with even bigger and meaner bosses and some super hard secret levels. With a healthy mix of new tricks and old this is perfect fun for all the family and one of the best games on the Wii so far.

Key Features

  • Super Sequel: The most famous hero in gaming returns for his most amazing adventure yet, filled with new worlds, new enemies and new allies.
  • Yoshi's Galaxy: Yoshi makes his first appearance in a Galaxy game, swinging across gaps with his tongue and gaining different powers by eating special fruits.
  • Mr Driller: Play with new power-ups such as the drill that lets Mario dig through the earth and into new areas - or even into the interior of planetoids.
  • Bullet Time: New features include time switches that slow down time for a few seconds, while turning the whole screen black and white.
  • Hard mode: For Mario experts new hidden stages provide a stiffer challenge than anything in the first game. Are you tough enough to beat them?
  • Mario collects stars as he travels from galaxy to galaxy. Every level is new, but the game retains the charm, sense of wonder and beauty in line with Mario s history. Mario works his way through the various levels, sometimes upside-down, sometimes floating from place to place.

5 out of 5 stars If you think Nintendo can't do better, think again!   July 14, 2010

I am deeply amazed at how much innovation goes on in Nintendo. I was expecting this Mario to be just the same as its prequel - with the "cheap" addition of Yoshi (although I loved the idea).

Turns out I was wrong. This game is very different from the previous ones, it tests you as a videogamer and lets you explore places that you would have never thought of exploring. They really push Mario's acrobatic skills this time.

It's been the best experience I've had with the Mario franchise so far. I'm a gamer since I was 12 (I'm 25 now).

If you're doubting whether or not to buy this, let me clear your mind: do it.

You won't regret.

What more can I say than the kids are never off this game?! Where other games have fallen by the wayside, the Mario Galaxy ones are always at the top of the pile. This game is well thought-out, challenging and interesting, the graphics are stunning. Whilst it contains many of the elements of the original Mario Galaxy, it also brings in new things such as being able to use Yoshi. Whilst being challenging, the game is suitable down to quite a young age as long as they can master the controls. My children are 5 and 9 and the 5-year-old is very adept at all the actions required, even if it does take him a bit longer than my older child to complete a particular level. Overall this was an excellent buy, my only gripe is that my partner and I can never get to the telly any more! The kids had to put half each towards the game so that there were no arguments and so far they have shared nicely. I would definitely recommend this game.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Mario Game Ever Created   June 10, 2010

Nintendo is known for creating some of the best games of all time. The original Super Mario Galaxy was an outstanding achievement with great gameplay, creative level designs, fantastic visuals, outstanding music and tight controls. How can you possibly top that? The answer is this masterpiece. Super Mario Galaxy 2. Taking everything that was amazing about the first game, and giving it tons of new features to make Nintendo's greatest game to ever hit the Wii.

The story is just like every other Mario game. Princess Peach is kidnapped by Bowser, Mario has got to go and rescue her once again. Galaxy 2 completely forgets about the previous games story, so it all feels like a whole new experience. There's less and shorter cutscenes this time around, so you get more into the game which is what Mario games are all about. Gameplay.

The gameplay in this game is just beyond incredible. The outstanding and creative level designs are what makes this game a masterpiece. Every new level has a star to collect, and getting to each one is incredibly fun. Each new Galaxy has a new way to play, so there is a ton of variety. Yoshi is the biggest new addition to Galaxy 2, and playing as him is a blast. Mario and Yoshi each have three new power ups, and each new one are great to use. All the original power ups from the first Mario Galaxy return as well, so there is lots to use. The game gets really tough later on with stars which are brutal to get. The hardcore will love the challange, and the casual gamers will still have plenty of fun. You will be sucked into this game for hours.

The graphics are identical to Galaxy 1 which is a great thing since the graphics were fantastic in the first game. Everything still looks as great as ever.

The music is simply amazing. All of it is done in orchestra with it's own new original tracks, remixes of music from the first game and even remixes of classic Mario music from the past. Your ears will be in for an outstanding treat.

The controls are rock solid. Everything feels perfect just like the first game with no problems what so ever. It's so easy to pick up and play.

Overall, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a masterpiece. Upgrading everything from the original with superb level design makes this one of Nintendo's best games ever made. If you own a Wii, want a Wii or love platformers, you absolutely need this game. 10/10

I preordered this game because I had the first game and that was amazing so when I got this game it took amazing to a whole new level.

With more new galaxies, more Power Stars and the return of Yoshi, this game is definatly worth the money. It is jam packed with amazing music, outstanding graphics and brilliant gameplay. I would say this game beats Galaxy 1.

Only one word can describe this game and I've used it in the title. This is a truly 10 out of 10 game which has enough variety, depth and difficulty to keep you transfixed for days, weeks even months. This is possibly the best game on ANY console for pure gaming style and panache. Granted it might not suit RPGers or hard core shooter fans but I'd even suggest that they give this game a go and they might be pleasantly surprised.

If you enjoyed the original, then you will soon pick up the thread on this one but newbies can start with this one quite readily. There are enough differences to warrant picking up both volumes in any case. While there are some dramatic improvements nothing that wasn't broken has been "fixed"

Although some of the first few planets are as tricky as some of the original titles later levels, indeed on the whole I found this game has a steeper learning curve than the original and there are some fiendish balancing/jumping levels early on but the harder stars are optional and can be returned to when you have more of the game sussed. There are loads of hidden coins and galaxies but if you want to merely rush through the game to get to the final boss as quickly as possible you will find things getting tougher, quickly. Each area is so peppered with mini challenges, warp-pipe secrets and hidden stars that you simply cannot find or realistically complete everything on your first run in any case.

Galaxy 2 is at times calm but it will then ask you to complete puzzles, to navigate worlds that can change at a moments notice and just as you'll be scratching your head wondering how to reach 'that' star, you'll be reaching for those 1-UP mushrooms PDQ. The difficulty of some levels could have been a turn off but the sheer "one more time" playability of this title keeps you coming back for more. Indeed every death is a lesson learnt, but this difficulty only makes success taste sweeter. I haven't been able to play this game with one of the new sensor controls but it works pretty well with the original numchuck and wiimote although it may just be me that keeps falling off some of the trickier routes where timing is vital. The game has beautiful graphics so you can't blame the lack of sharpness on the screen for this failing.

Beating every level will unlock something else to do: another path on the world map, a new feature on Starship Mario, or a Prankster Comet level that remixes a previously visited area. Having said that, repetition is kept to a minimum as the designers manage to invest similar or old levels with new challenges and design tweaks. A new Cloud level appears to have taken the place of the ice levels on the original (which I don't mind as I was rubbish on ice) and there are some new upgrades and Yoshi makes a guest appearance. There is also a new World Map system for navigating levels, much like classic Mario titles and the New Super Mario Bros. series.

I have been fortunate to have had this title for a week now so suffice to say I am nowhere near completion and there may be some more surprises around the corner but even if the game stopped now there is enough variety, excitement and sheer gaming pleasure in what I've already done that I'd be more than happy to play it all over again and indeed probably will.

My only quibble would be the fact that Nintendo have released this game in time for the summer so you may not get much of a sun tan this year as you will be spending a LOT of time indoors playing this game.

And that will be time well spent!!
