Datel Action Replay (Xbox)

The marketing blurb on the box could lead you to believe that it is similar to the VR2 for PS2 or the Action Replay for Dreamcast but it's anything but. It is also limited to games that work with a memory card or allow saves to be copied to or from the hardrive to a memory card, meaning that not all games will be able to work with it ..

If you are looking for a memory manager then this could be worth getting .. if you are looking for a cheat device then as Datel have stated this isn't one and you'll have to wait until they design one ..

If you want to be able to play saved games that you have downloaded from the codejunkies website, then this is for you. If you want to be able to enter a code for infinite lives/ammo the way Action Replay works on other consoles then this is not for you, and you may well be very disappointed and should keep away from this product.

I bought this particularly to help install 3rd party software on my xbox and it worked a treat! With the help of this I have managed to convert my console into a full media center so now it breaths new life into the old machine. You can find plenty of useful cheat codes with this too but thats not an area I explored much as I am not one for cheating through my games. But this is a great product even if only to expand your xbox`s functionality.

Though the Action Replay cheat sysstem has been around for years it seems to have hit a bit of a brick wall with the Xbox. The trouble comes from the fact that Microsofts system resets itself each time the disk is changed, meaning that any resident codes that were loaded into the system are lost when the game disk is entered.

This has unfortunately reduced the Xbox Action Replay to a system for swapping saved games. No infinate health codes, no unlimited time just save files from different points in the game.

Though born cheaters (like myself) should not completely lose heart, some of the saved games have been hacked so that all tracks, vehicles, characters or equipment are available from the start of the game, but if you are looking for a way to get through the time trials in DOA3 in less than two seconds, look elsewhere.
